{"id":226,"date":"2019-03-07T15:47:56","date_gmt":"2019-03-07T15:47:56","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/wordpress.watsonlv.net\/?p=226"},"modified":"2019-03-07T15:47:56","modified_gmt":"2019-03-07T15:47:56","slug":"england-ungreened","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/wordpress.watsonlv.net\/index.php\/2019\/03\/07\/england-ungreened\/","title":{"rendered":"England ungreened"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><em>Slowly, slowly and then fastly fastly the countryside surrounding our towns is being eaten up by \u2018the concrete monster of progress\u2019.<\/em> I am mapping the recent and future development around my town, based on Ordnance Survey 1:25,000 mapping, local planning documents, and a variety of sources.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It&#8217;s eight months since I began posting about the &#8216;ungreening of England&#8217; (<a href=\"http:\/\/wordpress.watsonlv.net\/index.php\/2018\/07\/25\/the-ungreening-of-england-burton-area\/\">http:\/\/wordpress.watsonlv.net\/index.php\/2018\/07\/25\/the-ungreening-of-england-burton-area\/<\/a>) adding more information to the map of the Burton-on-Trent area, thus making substantive revisions each time. This updated map includes a proposed development (aka land grab) to the west of the town called Postern Park which will include up to 750 houses, a secondary school, playing fields, &#8216;retail\/community&#8217; and formal open spaces.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;The site currently has agricultural use, principally pasture, but also an Adventure Farm, which has a hard surface car park, play area and animal enclosures, accessed north of Postern Farmhouse, off Postern Road. The existing Grade 2 Listed farmhouse is only visible from a narrow stretch of Postern Road to the south, and is wrapped by existing farm buildings.&#8221; In no way can this pleasant area of grassland along the Needwood Forest eastern boundary be considered a &#8216;brownfield&#8217; site.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"728\" height=\"1024\" src=\"http:\/\/wordpress.watsonlv.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/03\/UoE-v2-1-728x1024.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-225\" srcset=\"http:\/\/wordpress.watsonlv.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/03\/UoE-v2-1-728x1024.jpg 728w, http:\/\/wordpress.watsonlv.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/03\/UoE-v2-1-213x300.jpg 213w, http:\/\/wordpress.watsonlv.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/03\/UoE-v2-1-768x1080.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 728px) 100vw, 728px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>   <br>This land grab is in addition to 2,500 homes to be built at Branston Locks, as well as 300 homes to the south of Forest Road and up to 250  homes at Lower Outwoods Road.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The total number of new homes on the map is now approximately 10,600.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Key:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Red \u2013 mostly housing<br>Brown \u2013 mainly commercial<br>Black \u2013 failed housing application<br>Green enclosed area\u00a0 \u2013 Green Belt across the South Derbyshire \/ Staffordshire border<br>Solid green \u2013 the so-called Rolleston \/ Stretton \u2018Green Gap\u2019.
